When earning a loiving, unless you are famous you have to make what the public want as well as what you like to make. Here are a couple of examples. Foirst are a pair of candlesticks in ebony that I made, I like, in fact for once am actually pleased with them. Second are eight kanzashi or japanese hairsticks made to order, not exactly my favourite things to make in fact I stopped making them a few years ago as they didn't sell.

They are really lovely, the beauty of the wood really shows up on the candle sticks.

The Japanese hairsticks are very similar to lace making bobbins, they were why I got a lathe but as said before I felt the lathe was too big for these. If the hairsticks don't sell , why not try a few bobbins, they come in pairs and have beads similar to the sort of thing on the hairsticks to add weight and to identify them as a pair. I have made pillow lace and used these bobbins so know what is required from a lacemakers point of view. If I can help with any info just ask.

    Thanks Lilly,
I do bobbins, lace and tapestry as well as a lot of other fabric craft tools, usually to order. Have a look at my website. The lace bobbins are a lot smaller and the spangles are usually on a ring, and only on some bobbins, so many different styles. A lathe can't be too big to make something. I do dolls furniture on my main ,lathe as well as 30" bowls.

Yup there I go again teaching my grandma to suck eggs, sorry.

I might try experimenting next summer, weather will be too cold by the time my eye has healed enough, the lathe is in the shed and there is no heating and its too expensive to heat, its huge and draughty.

I totally understand why you like the candlesticks - that wood is just gorgeous - and you should be pleased with them!

Hairsticks - well, if it helps to pay the bills............

Easy to see why you like the candlesticks - they're great. I quite like the hair sticks as well but being 'hair' sticks, they would be no good for me
