    Default Incorrect Wick Size

    Hi all,

I am new to candle making and have made several candles with the incorrect wick size indicating that the candles are lighting extremely dim. I have now figured out the size I should have bought, however, I was wondering if anyone could advise me on how I can re-melt the candles I’ve already made (they’re in glass containers) to reuse the wax and make with the correct wick? Is this even possible to do and will the candle still be as effective?

Thank you so much in advance.

Simple answer here is, yes. When you melted the wax to make the candle originally, I assume you used a double boiler (jug in a pan of boiling water). Use the same approach but put the glass jar in the pan instead. Make sure the water isn't too deep. You don't really want the candle floating and you certainly don't want the water splashing into the wax.

Depends on what you mean by 'effective'. Are they scented candles and you're asking if they will still be as fragrant? If so you would lose a certain amount of the scent through evaporation when you re-melt the wax (unavoidable I'm afraid). Problem here is you'll have no idea how much so difficult to replace it / top it up and still be sure of your fragrance/wax percentage mix.

    Hope that helps.
