Default Water and fire-resistant clay without a kiln?

I'm wondering what kind of clay would best replicate kiln-fired clay used for pottery - without a kiln.

This is for a prototype/experiment novelty plant pot I'm making which can also be used as either a candle-holder or a cigarette ash-tray. So I need the final result to be water-resistant and fire-resistant. For this first test model, I'm just using my usual Polymer Clay, but I don't think it'll be the ideal material for the best results - plus it can be a bit expensive.

Can anyone share advice on this, it'd be very much appreciated!

    Default

After much research and running round in circles for answers to my query above, it appears the type of clay I use isn't as important as the sealant applied to it once baked/air-dried/etc, if I want it to be water or heat resistant.

Hope this helps any other amateurs who are looking for the same results.
