I am looking for an alternative to the expensive imported glass grinding systems. I am considering a high speed drill press (10,000rpm) with a diamond coated burr, water will be supplied with a sponge. any comments

Depending on the volume f work and how much grinding you will do, you really need a constant water supply. that could easily be setup with some tubing and a small pump. that said, a drill press seems pretty unsuited for the task but it could work. Here is a grinding guide theleisurepro.com/reviews/best-stained-glass-grinders/ that I would use for reference when setting up an alternative.
