    Default Beadworks closing down

After months in administration Beadworks in Covent Garden is no having its closing down sale. It is sad that this, along with the London Bead Shop and Bead Aura in Neals Yard have all no closed, with the others looking like they shortly will also close. I suppose it is enivitable that we should all end up online only and that the nature of shopping for everything is likely to go down that road, it seems that the little cartoon WallE may have summed us up as a nation perfectly.

    Not so fast Trish!!

We do sell online, admittedly, but our shop is important not only to us, but to our customers.

Browsing online is all very well, but you can't stand in front of a wall of semi-precious or facets and let your eye wander and explore how different beads work together (or not).

We are perhaps fortunate in that we are in Dorset, so maybe rents are slightly more realistic, and there is no doubt that retail is under severe pressure ( and has been for some time), but hopefully bead shops will continue for some time yet.

That is so good to hear!

Beadworks is doing it's countdown to 12 days of Christmas when, presumably, it shuts down both shop and website.

It is my hope that in time to come the government will lament and not only will the rents get lower, but also the, and perhaps more importantly in the case of central London, the Business Rates become low enough, or indeed are abolished to create a level playing field with the online market otherwise, sadly, all economic pointers are firmly in the direction of online.

I feel that you are correct, and not just about bead shops, I feel that getting out of ones home and meeting people, neighbours, etc. on the high street is very important and adds to the vibrance of where we live, not just rows and rows of houses, but colourful high streets, full of butchers, bakers and most importantly BEAD SHOPS

Got any pics of the shop you can post online so that people can pop down to visit?

By the way everyone, Beadworks has already started it 12 day closing sale, with its last day apparently being the 2nd December so there are plenty of bargains to be had and they also cover and awful lot of beads for knitting and clothing etc.
