How many eyelet/grommets should I use for a fixed length of curtain? Please note these ads will not show for registered crafts forum members.

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I have what I hope will be a pretty straightforward question. I'm converting a store-bought rod-pocket curtain to use grommets (I think in the UK you call them eyelets?).
My curtain rod has a return of 4". The curtain that I'm working with is 52" wide. I think my options for # of grommets is either 6 or 8. If I use 6, then by my calculations, the distance between them will need to be 7.4" with a return of 3.7", this seems like it might be a little snug for my rod. If I use 8, then the distance would be 5.8" with a return of 2.9". I'm wondering if this is too small?
What do you guys think? Which of those two options would you go for?
