    Pyrography: my first experience

    Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum, so i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post my own crafst. Recently, i discovered pyrography through a like-minded crafty drummer friend. She decorated her drum sticks with a pyrography pen. I was really impressed, and i wanted to try it out as well. So, i bought a set of bamboo coasters (actually, i bought many) and started my own pyrography adventure.

My brother turned 27 in january, but due to a busy schedule i've never been able to make him a proper gift. So, a bit tardy to the party, i started two weeks ago. My brother is a big fame of the Game of Thrones/Song of Fire and Ice-series (so both the books and the HBO tv-show). Anyway, i made Game of Thrones coasters, and I'm quite happy with the results. I'm not really good at drawing something from hand, i am however good at measuring. I made 10 different coasters, all with sigils of the great houses of Westeros.

I've uploaded the results to my blog. It's in Dutch, but i suppose the images are self-explanatory. I'm interested in your opinions. Any suggestions/tips on how to improve my skill are more than welcome The results are found here: https://teveelvrijetijd.wordpress.co...-onderzetters/

Update: Yay! Finally managed to upload a picture

Those are very good - especially as you say you are a novice at the craft. A little more practice and you'll be up there with the very best of the pyrographers.

They look lovely well done. We ar quite 'into' pyrography here as one of the mods is a quite well known one. He isn't on very often but will no doubt spot your post sooner or later and have an encouraging word.

Thanks all you're making me blush. My brother was very happy with them. I'm still looking for ways too improve. On my blog i've shown how i've tried to improve some coasters, i think if ill ever do this again for somebody else, ill use less detail on the three-headed dragon and the lion, and just colour the sides instead of burning the fur.

            Thanks again!

They all look amazing, TVVT! As someone who has experience with woodworking, you've done a pretty great job! They kinda look like badges, which you get for completing a particular task (not a bad thing, trust me)

Looking forward to see more from you!

Hi Ian and to the Crafts Forum. this is an old post in June last. Perhaps you could do an introduction and tell us a little about yourself first and I'm sure there is someone on here who can help you with advice on the best equipment to get started with.

An incredible first attempt. I don't think mine would quite look like this on my first try, I would love to have a go but I don't think they would be as good as yours. Can't wait to see more.
