Window/Material Confusion!?

First of all may I say that I had completely forgotten that I had joined this forum so I am really pleased to have found it again!

The problem I have is how to make curtains for a window that is 42inches wide (excuse old measuring) but my material is 54inches wide?
Any suggestions please?

That would leave enough for pleating so I would just make up the curtains at that width.
