Top coat for cup coasters? What to use

    Hi,

I’m a newbie, this looks like a great forum 😁

I have a problem, I’ve got some acrylic painted cup coasters that I’ve coated with car varnish (sprayed). On testing, they’re coping really well with the heat but are chipping.

Not the right solution. I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on what coating I should use that will deal with hot mugs of tea being thrown onto them?

The tester is my son, who is heavy handed!

Many thanks for reading, Tina 😊😊

You could try Rust-Oleum Painters Touch ultra matte clear needs several coats though

Thanks, that’s a really interesting one. I’ve heard of it but not looked closely before.

Is the varnish chipping off the paint or is it the paint chipping? if the paint is coming off whatever the coaster is made from then you need to sort out a better way to apply the paint. If the varnish is chipping off then try not varnishing and using a gloss paint.
