Hollowed out book for hiding jewelry, money, your secret candy stash....

I finished my first Christmas gift of the year, a hollowed out book for a preteen girl.
Its not my best work, I am alittle rusty at the decoupage, but hopefully she likes it (we are always our own worst critics so I'm trying to go easy on myself for a change).

I've attached some photos of the finished product (front cover, inside, secret compartment, and back cover), however if you want to see pictures of the process or read about how I made it then feel free to visit the Christmas blog I started.

These are such a lovely idea, I really like them and admire anyone who can do it - I attempted it at as part of my degree and I just couldn't do it, I couldn't bring myself to take a wonderful old book and cut it up!!

Oh, I would never cut up an older book, especially not one that had gone out of print.
But I have no problems using books that are a dime-a-dozen for crafting puroses. The particular novel that I used for this project was printed for the first time less than 10 years ago, and re-printed several times since then. Copies of it are easy to find and its even been turned into a movie.

No worries, I didn't butcher a classic just to make this.

I hope the recipient will love and appreciate all the effort and thought that went into this gift. This is no mean feat...these are hard work and very time consuming to create but can make beautiful gifts. I find it hard to cut into any book and so tend not to make them often, preferring to cheat and make a fake book instead.
