  • First Loom Work

Hello everyone! Here are a few pics of the first items I made using a loom. I havent a clue what to do with them as they are too small for bracelets and I haven't figured out how to loom longer pieces or put fasteners on or hide all the threads. Google time I think!

Can you sew them onto interesting backings?
Some ideas - a leather bracelet, a velvet choker, a hair slide, dangling off a key ring.

Longer pieces - you need a longer loom but you should be able to make several small pieces and use the dangling threads to put through the last rows to 'sew' them together.

Attaching fasteners -you can put individual threads between or through each bead on the last row to make a long fringe which you then plait and people can work out for themseves how to tie your 'bracelet' round their wrist. Or you can go through that last line of beads to leave a line of thread that you can fasten jewellery fastenings to. Dangly earrings?

Hiding the threads - I thread them back through the beads and if they won't stay put I reach for a tiny spot of glue or my handy little bottle of fray stop which is the same, but less messy, thing.

We were clearing out my mum's house the other week and in her jewellery drawer I found two woven bead necklaces I'd made her when I was a student. (That was 40+ years ago.)
It was a very awish moment - and isn't it good that you are carrying it on ?
        It's a wonderful world.
