  • What am I?

I am getting more and more odd requests lately. This one was from someone who gave me specific dimensions. It's 15cm long, 2cm diameter at each end and 3cm diameter 11 cm alng. It hs an 8mm hole through the middle. Can you guess what it is?

It isn't a handle for an old fashioned high level toilet by the way.

Some sort of winding wheel handle? Something to do with vintage vehicles?
(This reminds me, wasn't there an antiques show, years ago, where they had a mystery object to guess?)

Rings a bell. Two panels of experts and they had to bluff and one on each panel had the right answer. Actually that'd make a fun thread as I am sure a few of us here have odd commissions.

Oh and no, not a winding handle. Good guess but wrong. LOL

Again close but all the suggestions are missing the fact that I had specific dimensions that I had to adhere to LOL.

Bell handle, like the old school yard bells????

I remember that programme, was it called 'going going gone'? or was that a different thing altogether. I'll have to google it.

Sounds right and no this isn't a bell handle. If no-one guess it I'll put the answer up tomorrow. Anyone else have odd requests?

I'm probably wrong but it looks like a rasp handle. Well I have rasp handles that look quite similar.

Obviously as you all see it is handle but this had to be specific sizes which most of the things suggested needn't be. I am off to bed now so I'll answer the question tomorrow LOL.

Is it a weight rather than a handle, or both?

I made something like this not long ago and it was the hilt for a rapier ... it had to be specific dimensions to fit the hand of the person using it. The length is about right although it was a little thicker at 2.5 cm. That being said your object would not be suitable as it has a smooth finish and the wood would not be appropriate. The fact that you had to stick to set measurements and the fact that the bore goes all the way through would imply that rather than a handle it is more likely to be a mid piece on a longer length and the fact that there is a specific diameter could mean that it has to move between other parts maybe. There is a lot that springs to mind but nothing I would bet the farm on ... lol ...either way I am curiousened (ie to be made more curious!!lol)

I was going to suggest a throwing knife, I know they have to be properly weighted but I'm not sure if the dimensions of the handle have anything to do with that.

The only other thing I can think up would be the weight bit for a plumb line, again I'm not sure if the dimensions have to be so exact.
