Someone asked on another thread 'what do us professionals do when we are not crafting.' Well in my case my hobby is making things I really like making and not just what others want. Sometimes they coincide but there are times when I am doing things that can get a bit boring so I have a break and grab a lump of wood that looks like it should be in the firepile and see what Mother Nature has hidden inside it.
I found this hidden away this afternoon inside a bent blackthorn log. . It's 9" tall and 4" across the top. The pictures don't show it but the finish is like glass. It is still a bit wet so those of you with a covetous streak will have to wait if you want it as it won't be in the shop for a while.
As always click on a thumbnail for a full size image

P.S. I am trying to improve my photos so any comments etc on that would be welcome as well

It is truly gorgeous - that is all I have to say.

No words of photography wisdom I'm afraid.

PS: None of the bits of wood in my garden have anything like that hidden inside them

Lovely Pete. Really like the irregular rim. Presumably it wont take water and is for dried flowers and foliage only.

I am soaking the inside with melamine so this one should be able to be used for cut flowers as well. I am giving it a spray every so often to build up a god deep layer inside.

        Thanks both for the compliments

Saw it on facebook yesterday pete, I really like the way you have managed to make a functional product but keep the natural beauty of the wood, it is definitly a case of let the wood tell you what it wants to be.
