  • Finally...mosaic house number prototype!

I started this months ago but have only just completed it! It took me a long time to make and a lot of patience but it's finally all done...

I'd really appreciate your thoughts, as I've never done anything like like mosaic-wise. This one is just a prototype, so these are not necessarily the colours I will use in future makes - I used them this time as I thought they stood out well, but I'd appreciate some thoughts on what colours would be good for a door number.

Can anyone also give me an idea as to what you'd be prepared to pay for one?

Really look forward to and appreciate your comments!

Def love the colour combo - I think it works really well with the pale grout too. I tend to like things that are a bit 'wonky' - as in not perfect or exactly repeatable... nice work!

I think it is really cool! I'd pay maybe £10-£15? Hope that doesn't insult you!

Yes, I really like this, the number stands out and looks good. I wondered, to protect the edges outside, and seeing as it's straight edges, would some of that plastic hockey stick moulding that you finish tiling off in the bathroom be useful at all?

I like it because it is very clear. We have a fairly long drive and the number cannot be deciphered from the road.

Looking good! If I didn't live in a crappy rented student dive I'd definately invest in such wonders!

I like this idea as its a bit more quirky than the normal ceramic plaques you can buy or the horrible wooden thing with a badger scene on it thats been on our house since we bought it 8 years ago!! Never have got round to replacing it!!
I would probably pay about £20 for something like this at the moment. Think you should stick with black background as shows numbers up well. I suppose white is a choice that would sell really well for the numbers or maybe a brick colour to coordinate with houses although I really like the bright colours, a bright blue or red would be cool!!

I like the idea though if it was for me personally then I'd go for the black border and numbers with perhaps an irridiscent white or cream background.

With regards to price that depends on size, but I'm guessing that it's "normal" door plaque size (maybe around eight inches?) then I'd be happy to pay £15-£20.

                        Hope this helps,

I really love it. It's maybe not my choice of 'inner' colour, but thats besides the point. Todo list has been updated:

                          1. Acquire a house (rather than a flat)
                          2. Get mosaic number to put on the outside.

I'd probably pay around £30--£40 for a simple one, more if the design was a bit more complex (tricky with numbers) - although I'm not sure how large it is, and thats a key factor, too - I'm assuming approximately side-plate sized?

I like it, it looks really good, much funkier than the usual house numbers!

I agree with Matt, price depends on the size, but it would have thought its easily worth at least £30.

I'm not even on the property ladder yet otherwise I'd be after one!

Keep us updated on how it goes with the new range!

Wow thank you everyone, this is really encouraging for my first attempt!

In terms of the size, this one measures 15 x 15cm (6 x 6 inches). As I'll be making them to order, I could alter the size according to what the customer wants.

Thanks for all the colour suggestions! I think I'll make a few more prototypes in the colours suggested and have them on my website as examples, but offer the customer the chance to choose their own colours.

I've got a few new ideas running around my head at the moment, which is really exciting! Isn't crafting fun!!!??!!!!
