  • Koi Carp Woodburning

This is a recent woodburning i made, using the art of pyrography, and experimenting with adding colour to the piece after the burn has been done.

It features Koi Carp, which ive always been interested in, because of their significant symbolism; ranging from good fortune and luck, to symbolising strength and aspiration

This piece was burnt onto a slice of Alder.

"According to Japanese legend if a koi succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River it would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement.

Koi Carp are associated with perserverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals"

Very nice! It has a lovely flow of movement. What did you use to tint it with?

Though you know you're not charging nearly enough for your work, given the time I know it must take, don't you?
        Cheers,

Thank you Scorch, thats very kind of you. For this piece, i added the hint of colour using a blend of red and orange watercolours.
