  • Bracelets - why dont i like them?

I made 2 bracelets tonight, well one and 80% of another! But im not happy with either. They are made with sterling findings and that other sort of silver.....forget what its called. Sterling silver crimps are excellent!!

First one is too tight. I need to redo it and let there be a little slack. The swarovski's are grinding!! I made the end bits longer as the bracelet was too short. But i dont like having the 3 swarovskis. Think its too much.

This one i havnt finished as i dont like the selection of beads. I want more of the flowery green ones. There is just something that doesnt work!

I think it depends if you can live with the uneaven balance of the braclets. I can live with it on necklaces but braclets I like to be the same all round wether it be the same pattern or random. Not sure that sounds how I mean.

        Bracelets

I think Goldy1 is correct about balance of beads.

I'll try to explain, if it makes sense then that's a bonus ...... if the bracelet is unevenly balanced, the beads will hang (because of the weight) and the big beaded side will dangle (technical phrase) under your wrist, showing only the lightweight beads and catch on the top of your wrist. Hope you are following. Does this make sense??

I apologise if you already know this.

The green bracelet, however, is good - better selection of beads and more balanced.
        Take care

Yeah i get what you mean. Maybe thats why i didnt like it when i tried it on. It didnt hang right.

I only got 4 of the larger beads. They were £1.20 each. They seemed expensive to me! Maybe im just a cheap skate lol!

Hmmm, I actually like them as they are, but then I have to remember the dangle of a bracelet, so have just been looking at them, and I think, ...

1st bracelet, maybe a few more spacers (and maybe the end 3 swaros) between the Swaros and the lampies, even if its just the little silver balls, that way it spreads the lampies out more across the length of the bracelet, and may give a little more length to the bracelet so you can 'lose' the extra bit at the ends.

2nd bracelet., lovely collection of beads, but maybe again juggle the beads about a bit to move the lampies away from each other, giving a more balanced spread through the bracelet.

But its late, I have a bad headache and I could be talking complete codswallop, so feel free to ignore me if you want

There are many ideas available when you pass from a small size to a big size and you want to keep a sense of proportion (or spoil it but create a paradoxical beauty). One is to allow transition (beads of increasing/decreasing size). Another one is to intercalate a bead which has not the shape of the previous or following ones, and thus leads to the eye catching upon the shape variation rather than size variation. You can use uneven distribution of larger elements but include pendants. Or you can split the bracelet in two rows of small elements for one row of heavy ones. And yes, the green one would have more balanced with 3 flower elements instead of two.

I guess I am thinking along the lines of most of the other posters. The top one doesn't work for me because it doesn't balance correctly. The long thin ends just do not work IMHO so I would spread the lampies out and intersperse the smaller beads. Personally I much prefer the second -mainly the colours are more to my taste - and it does not need too much tweaking to make it work. Think you just need to play around a little more with the beads. At the end of the day though we like what we like and we're all different!

                  Ok, here's my very professional suggestion . . . . . . .

get yer bead board back out, babe, and swap em round a bit!

Seriously though - both bracelets have great bead combo's so its just a case of finding the right balance as everyone else has said.

                    Beading Style

The thing is to develop your own style and feel confident with it. If you build up a rhythmn of colour and shape your design will work well, the eye will travel around it without any jarring. When you comment that it doesn't work as a design it is probably because it is out of balance visually, the shapes aren't relating well to each other, the fact that that you are aware of that means that you can get it right. Also a design has to look good on the wrist and feel comfortable to wear.

Yes i agree with goldy1 and goldieab, it will hang wrong. It looks good to do with this with a necklace though! I do like the pattern and colour scheme you have used on the first one!
