  • A shakey start

Well i turned my first two pieces today after two years away from the lathe.
I dont as yet have any sanding or polishing equipment yet and i was shakeing quite a bit but here you are.

This is a Eucaliptus candle holder, I didn't bother turning it into a goblet i just wanted to turn the form, It is very rough i will need to practice a bit more to make it smoother pre sanding.

This is a 12mm Flesh tunnel again unsanded made from Walnut i was wearing a 10mm plug and i wanted to streach it back to 12mm so i made this, It's very rough round the edges but thats ok it will only be in a week or two until i get the finishing bits. I wont put any solvents on anything i make that comes into contact with skin like this i soak the wood in Olive oil.

I have to stress that some woods do cause reactions when in contact with skin so take care if you try this..

Very nice. At least you have proved to yourself that you can still do it and do it well. The only way is up now. Well done.

A very good start Steve. I particularly like the shape of the candle holder and think it would make a good goblet.

It would have been a goblet Linda if i had a little more confidence but i didn't want to run before i could walk ive been away from the lathe for quite a long time and just wanted to practice first.

They are great Steve, you obviously still have the talent now you just need to build your confidence.
            All the best

Well done Steve, if you have a talent for something, which you obviously do, you don't lose it by not using it you will just be a bit rusty and need the oil of confidence to hone it to perfection again. I know, no crafter ever thinks they have made something perfectly we are all far too self critical but as long as we do the best we can you can't ask for anything more of yourself.

Look forward to seeing some more.

Mate.... those are nice pieces and to be fair I'm not sure I could make an ear tunnel myself anyway so props to you for that one. Your skills and confidence can only increase from here on ... Its like riding a bike... actually no its not. I mean, when was the last time you rode a bike and thought.."hmmm what that spinning wheel needs is a bit of sharp metal stuck in it!"....so... not like riding a bike at all really! I really should think before using these comparisons....lmao

                  Keep up the good work!
