  • Picture Framing Tools

Am interested in creating my own picture frames, but dont want to spend a lot of money on the equipment. Does anyone know of someone selling second hand tools for this?
    Thanks for any help offered.

I'm not sure what tools you are thinking of. Basically you need a way of doing mitres and a clamping system. Are you thinking of buying in ready shaped wood or routing it yourself? that's where the main expense would come in.

Mitres can be done with a simple box and a tenon saw, a few pound there and a clamp cord for another few pound maybe £10 - £15 in total. If you are doing a lot then you are better off investing in a chop saw, anywhere from £35 - a couple of hundred. Apart from that there's just the pins and glue.

      Hi

Not quite sure what Sympath was on about, but as someone who makes Picture Frames from solid wood mouldings it's quite involved.

Even if you buy in mouldings, you really need a mitre guillotine, then some form of underpinner to put in V wedges and glass and cutter and backing board and a stapler for flexi-tabs.

Making the odd one with a saw and mitre box + frame clamp will be ok, but more than that and you've got to start shelling out.......sorry.

      Chris.
