  • Wooden Blanks - Suppliers?

    HI All

I've been going mad trying to find suppliers of blank wooden items (bowls, vases etc etc) have found loads of sites in the states but not found anything in the uk, well not any that have been reasonably priced anyway.

Looking for items made from actual wood rather than ply or mdf etc as I want to decorate them using pyrography.

Does anyone know of any such sites?

    Any help very much appreciated.

I have yet to find a decent and reasonably priced supplier of such items... I'll be watching this thread with interest to see if you get any suggestions! If only I had room for my own lathe, I loved doing woodturning. I can dream, eh?

The ones I know are listed here on my site, under Pyrography Suppliers :
      http://www.scorchpyro.co.uk/Thanks.html

But bowls, plates and vases are hard to come by and expensive...
      Cheers,

hmmmm...........depends what you consider expensive !

I know you guys have to decorate the thing and then sell it - but the poor old turner has to get the wood and make it........

....I'm gonna have to give it a go soon though, there's definitely a market there.

I buy my blanks from robdxr2i on ebay.
Fantastic guy and couldn't reccommend highly enough. He has always been able to accommodate my requests and is incredibly cheap given the work that goes into it. Postage also very reasonable. He provides pyrography blanks in a number of finishes. Hope this helps. If you dont see what you need in his shop, send him an email, good luck!

              H Raven Have a look at www.dalescraft.com

They have a good range of wooden blanks. I can recommend the sycamore blanks myself for pyrography, as I have used them on my on creations with my pyrograph.
The sycamore is very easy to work with a pyrograph, and gives a good finish.

              regards

                OK Pyrographers......

I've started to get a few bits together, hopefully some plates to come tomorrow.

Not for sale as yet, I need to get some feedback, ie: what's wrong with them, what's right with them, what else you'd like to see and more importantly - price!......what would you think was reasonable to pay for them, not a price where you're going to drool and say '...I'll have 3 of them....', but a price at which you'd buy and I can make a profit!

Probably best to pm or email me with your thoughts.

                Chris.

Most of the timber I use is gathered from a local woodland I have permision to harvest, there are quite a few trees that have been down for years slowly maturing. The bits I buy I get from axminster http://www.axminster.co.uk/category-...nks-208179.htm
