  • Iv'e lost my Etui

A simple little needle case you might think and I wouldn't blame you either. But.... Most of my life is in that tiny little case. There are needles I have had and used for donkeys years plus pins, bodkins, and embroidery needles to name but a few, that I have used to make things long gone or worn out. Favorite needles my fingers hold in comfort knowing it will do the job I want. A short hatpin I use for poking out tiny blocked holes in my (original)engagement ring from time to time. That has to be an antique like me now. There was a couple of needles that I used to sew my own babies clothes, I no longer used them but they were there. Which reminds me, one of those pins was a nappy pin from the same era. I am really quite upset. I have turned the place up side down. I think I must have lost it to or from my craft meetings.
Do you have any memories in your Etui?

Thats horrid to hear, its special to you so I hope you find it soon. You never know you may spot it when you arnt looking.I tend to look so hard for things that I totally blank them out, and they are right infront of me all the time.
I had no idea they are called an Etui.

I love Etui's and made my sister one last year she had never had one and now cannot do without. Also find the chatelaine on my embroidery scissors invaluable.

Oh its far from a new word. It is the old, old word for needle case or small box. It was one of the things that Victorian and even pre Victorian young ladies made as part of their housekeeping lessons.

                  Dear Carol!
I feel for your loss. I hope someone will find your etui and you will get it back. I have a little bag with beads, needles and such and I would be very, very, very sad and upset if I should lose it.

Its nice that you understand. My OH thinks I am being daft "about a few pins".

                        Put there your special pins.

Ive read that an etui is like an exploding box, the sides collapse.Does it have to be like this or can it just be a normal box?

Im so glad I read this thread.Ive been trying to think of small things to make iwht fabric and pin cushions and needle cases for an etui sound ideal.

And you can be soooo inventive with them too. Look forward to seeing what you come up with, I bet they will be quite unusual.

Oh I do hope someone has picked it up and you get it back at your next meeting, I would be distraught - I do understand as I'm forever losing things. Thankfully they normally turn up so fingers crossed yours will too, yes love that word too!

I have my grandmothers old bone crochet hook which she taught me to crochet with many moons ago, and a wooden mushroom (can't remember the right word) that I used when my Mum taught me to darn holes in socks properly - now that must be a lost art!

Hope to hear some good news from you soon

What you need is a little alarm you can fasten to it and when it goes walk about next time you can clap your hands and it will ring .Hope you have found it though its so annoying when we loose things x
