Also i collect fallen branches in the local woods. I have a mate coming over today with 4 Mahogany pool table legs out of a skip he found. Result there.
In 1 year of turning i have only ever paid for my wood twice, Once for the motorcycle headlight and once for the shallow form i did yesterday.
Feel free to come and chop my overgrown trees down - I think I may have enough for all the woodworkers in the country to share.

Good for you. I also rarely buy wood. Another source is Freecycle as often people are cutting down trees from their gardens or pruning and just dump it. I got some nice Laburnum that way. Keep your eyes open for council workers as well as any you take saves them work dumping it. Make sure that you ask though as otherwise it is officially theft.

Be careful with any wood from furniture as if it's older stuff the finish on it can be pretty nasty stuff. Good source of sustainable exotics though. Congtats on the mahogany pool legs, Should be a fair bit of wood in those for you. Will also be dry so ideal for boxes
