  • Masking tape resist

Now that I seem to have a transparent glaze that crackles how I want it to, I would like to try using masking tape/strips to cover areas that I don't want the glaze to adhere to and instead have the carbonised clay body show through as black/dark.

Is it best to just leave the tape etc stuck to the pot after dipping in glaze and letting the kiln burn away the tape or pull it off once the glaze has dried? (before putting in the kiln?)

I want to have quite clearly defined edges on my patterns and am concerned that if I peel the tape off the dried glaze will crumble at the edge making it not so well defined?

I suppose the best approach is to try both methods but wondered if anyone had tried either technique?

    Thanks

    Pete
