New to the Forums ... Kiln Questions

I am new to the forums, and I live in the US. You can't find a decent Ceramic Pottery Forum here in the US, so here I am from across the Pond.


I recently purchased a Cress FE-29s kiln from a friend. The kiln is made to fire, and not to heat treat. I would like to convert it to heat treat. In other words, the kiln is set up now so that it gradually goes up so many degrees Fahrenheit every hour and when it reaches it's peak temp it shuts off.

I would like to convert it to hold at a certain temp over time, and not shut off until the timer is up.

Does anyone have any suggestions? The manufacturer has been no help what so ever.

What sort of controller does the kiln have? You should be able to program it to 'soak' for however long a period of time at a certain temperature.

I dont think old kilns have as good controls as the newer ones though.
