  • Making your own polymer clay

    Hi,

I just wondered if anyone had tried making their own polymer clay? If so what recipe did you use?

    Cheers

    Hi Kate

In all my years of claying, I have never heard of anyone making their own polymer clay. Would love to know if it is possible, although I suspect without the right access to the raw chemical ingredients and a good knowledge of what they do, it might be a tall order.

The main ingredient is PVC - not being a chemist, I have no idea what processes are needed to convert that and the other ingredients into a clay. I rather suspect it would require more than the average kitchen equipment, but I truly have no idea whatsoever!

Interesting subject though - the very first polymer clays were all made by experimentation by dollmaker Kaethe Kruse and her daughter. So maybe it IS something we could do ourselves if only we researched it more.
