  • Knitting the new Yoga!

    Hi Everyone!!!

Just wanted to see what you all thought about Knitting? I am a knitter but not very good.... they say that this craft is making a big comeback? What do you think...

I like knitting too, when I have the time!! There do seem to be lots of funky/trendy patterns about and loads of ideas for different knitting material, so, I guess, maybe it is making a comeback.

That strikes a cord; I have had the biggest urge to knit something recently (and then decorate with beads of course...!) - probably mainly just because its cold/grey outside and I like to sit and 'do' something whilst watching all those costume dramas on a sunday evening. Its also something I havent done since I was a teenager and everyone was making those long rainbow-stripe-Dr-Who-style scarves (does that give away my age...lol!) so I feel a tad rusty with the old clickety-clicks. Anyway, I went looking for inspiration in WH SMiths and noticed there were a few new knitting mags out so maybe what you heard is right......keep practising !

Funny you should mention knitting. I have just this minute come back from my mum's where she has showed me how to knit, and am now happily clicking away making my own scarf!
I did learn to knit years ago when I was younger and had completely forgotten how to do it, and am quite chuffed with myself now (it is very relaxing). I hope to eventually knit with wire to make some of those lovely bracelets and necklaces that you see.
So yep I think knitting is the way forward.

I thought I might try a tea cosy for my mum for Mothers Day (she's the only person I know who would use one too !) but have now got a bit distracted knitting a cute little bag that was in the knitting magazine I bought...(still hopefully there's still be plenty of time to do the cosy)

I can't knit, but my mum knitted me a lovely fluffy jumper, and a mini dr who scarf recently. It looks like the really expensive ones in those expensive shops we window shop in. I would definitely think adventuring into it more The patterns that are coming out are just fab, and quite trendy!

My mum does a lot of knitting (mostly for me to sell at fairs) and she's always showing me gorgeous patterns that are Debbie Bliss.

Some of the patterns she shows me are just so scrummy and I would say definitely sell-able.

                      Knitting

I can't hand knit to save my life!
I use an extremely battered knitting machine to knit wire.
That's been my job for the last nine years.
My gallery is in Somerset, called Facets of Avalon.
I'd love to hear any comments!

I only took up knitting a couple of weeks ago, as I mentioned earlier on in this thread. I can now say that I am on my 4th scarf! lol!

I did try the knitting with wire, but my patience was not at its best, and the only result I got was sore fingers, and a mass of knotted wire! Its in the naughty corner at the moment while I sulk with it. I may try again sometime but I think I will stick with the nice soft fuzzy wool!

I have also knitted off and on for many years, and crochet. All the Grandkids are getting knitteds this Christmas again. They will be fed up with it. I had heard it was making a "Come Back". Its nice to be in the fashion. lol

                              knitting

                              Hi,

I've never knitted in my life, but a couple of weeks ago I came accross some knitting needles and my husband suggested I give it a try (I know why, he's obsessed with having a big bulky Aran knit jumper and thinks if I get good enough he'll get one ) Anyway, I asked at work if anyone could help me get started as I don't even know how to hold the needles... I was shocked at the amount of offers for help I got. It seems everyone is knitting... and not only that, I thought it would all be far maturer ladies that were offering, not a bit of it, everyone offering to help was about my age (I'm 28 tomorrow) it seems it really has made a come back. I don't know if this is because everyone is fed up of everything in the shops looking the same and being of poor quality and very expensive, or just because no one can afford to go to the pub anymore and needs something else to occupy their time... nonetheless it's great. As for my knitting... I've managed to cast on, but I couldn't knit beyond that because I think I cast on too tightly and used too fine a wool! I'm going to persevere with it... if I can knit myself a scarf I will feel a great sense of achievement! I've been distracted at the moment though by cross stitch as I'm doing a sampler for my best friend's baby's naming ceremony! Keep on knitting I say!
