I have made up quite a few chunky knit hats and would like to finish them off with a topper but dont really fancy a pom-pom. I've tried making a tassle but as i've knitted the hat in two yarns of aran the tassle just looks limp as it consists of single strands. Any other ideas for a hat topper?

How about using fleece, maybe a rectangle about 3" x10" fringed along the long edge and then rolled up. Or a pony tail or dreads...What about picking up a few stitches on top of the hat and knitting a long rope and then tie it in a knot on top. http://img3.etsystatic.com/il_fullxfull.34354007.jpg or roll it up like a swiss roll.
or just a big button?
