  • Spool knitting - WHY?????

My 9yo wanted to try this so we have had a go but other than spending an eternity sewing the product into a spiral rug can you do anything with it? There must be some reason for it but I cant find much on google, loads of instructions but no finished products

Coil it into a cone shape to make an egg cosy.

Loop the finished cord to form petals and cover the stitches in the centre with a button. Add a brooch pin on the back ..... et voila!

Use the cord to 'draw' designs onto jumpers, bags etc.

Make a cord long enough for a necklace, then feed small beads into it and tie off in between the beads with contrasting thread.

Once you get started, you'll find lots of other ideas

How about a shopping bag. Table Mats are quite a nice thing to make, you can use them every day.

I've got the instructions for a nice winter hat from a 70's craft magazine I'll post it in my gallery when I have the chance, you can also use beads pre threaded on the wool and then added to ever other row of stiches, theses make nice necklaces and braclets.

just an after thought if you where having problems finding it on the internet try searching for French Knitting or Dollie knitting ( this refers to the spool used which sometimes is decorated to look like a doll )
