  • Can anyone help me out regarding US/metric crochet hook size?

    Hiya everyone,

    I'm very new to crochet, well - so new that i've not actually started yet! But i have purchased a pattern i would like to make...except the hook sizes are in US letters, and i'm having trouble finding an accurate answer as to which hooks i need!

    I need - F, G, J and K (sounds ambitious i know, but these are for various patterns - i assure you, i will be starting slow! ). Now, i found a couple of websites with US/metric sizes but to me at the moment, its just gobbledegook! It seems to depend on what the hook is made of...

    I've found a lovely set on Ebay i fancy getting, but i don't know if they include the sizes i need? There are 12 in the set, 2.5mm-10mm. There is a table with UK/US sizes but it doesn't include any letters! Are the ones i need included?

    Please help me out!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Clare,

    There is a useful conversion chart on the Knitting and Crochet Guild website.

    F = 4mm
    G = 4.50mm
    J = 6mm
    K = 7mm

    Hope this helps

        Also worth noting is that the UK and USA terms for crochet are different - so if you have a pattern that reads "double crochet" this can mean different things depending upon who wrote the pattern!

        I've got the conversion charts in a book so if you need them let me know!
