  • Designer Cabochons (Lapidary)

Does anyone have any links to websites where I can get hold of semi precious designer cabochons for making wire sculpted jewellery in the UK.
I guess they would be called Lapidarists websites/shops.
Can find lots in the USA but the import duties make it expensive to buy from them,(although I do at the moment,) I would much rather buy from UK if possible. I have managed to find one UK site named "Designer Cabochons", but so far thats the only one.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks
    Dave....aka.......creative-spirit.

I would have suggested Kernowcraft too. Otherwise Marquise

Or ask a lampworker to slump you some glass ones, which can be gorgeous.

                              Just as a point of interest . . . .

Designer Cabochons were exhibiting at the Harrogate show that we attended as customers in Oct last year and we were talking to the guy and his father for a good hour. Its just one guy that buys rough stones and process them to make designer cabs and then set them in sterling, selling on any cabs that he doesn't want to use himself. Very nice guy but he is just like most people in the jewellery making game - he has no idea where to buy cheaply! Which is why his prices are high. We actually told him some of our suppliers of the rough stones and he'd never heard of them even though one place is one of the biggest wholesalers of rough gemstones in the country and is only about 15 mins drive from where he lives! After talking to him, we reckoned he could cut his buying costs by around 50-80% if he shopped around.

Having said that - every piece he had on his table was stunning.

I did tell him about the forum and that he should join - but there's been no sign of him. Maybe I'm not singing our praises well enough!
