  • Memory wire - do I need specific cutters?

    Hi
was thinking about making some memory wire bracelets as I had one made for me and thought it was a lovely gift item. I have found a supplier and the wire itself looks very affordable but they were selling memory wire cutters for £10..... do you need specific memory wire cutters or would ordainary ones do the job?

    Thanks
    Ray

memory wire will mangle pretty much any cutters or pliers, so I'd say yes, get the right cutters.

The proper cutters are by far the best, but when I started using memory wire I made do with a pair of household cutters from Wilkinsons. They cost less than £3 and did the job perfectly well, so long as the ends were filed down afterwards. Whatever you do, though, never use your jewellery cutters on it, it will ruin them.

many thanks for the responses - I have no jewellery cutters as yet so will make sure if I do get some I never use them for memory wire.
