  • arghhh knot happy

I have spend the last few hours trying to teach myself to hand knot pearls, ive got more knots where there shouldnt be knots, managed a 2" string before breaking the flipping thing

Husband has just commented that it may be better to try it when there is actually some decent light!

If that's any consolation, it was also a disaster when I tried I gave up half way and just strung the pearls without knots on silk cord LOL
I thought I should have tried using some tweezers to slide the knot as close as poss to the pearl, not sure if it'll work.

It was a present for my mum but I guess she won't know any different, knotted or knot

You can use a fine pair of tweezers to place inside the knot so that they are holding the thread just as it comes through the bead. This will stop the knot from tightening in the wrong place when you pull the thread tight.

Did that make any sense? It's not so easy to describe in words.

Here's an excellent youtube on pearl knotting (in two parts).

I also like this tweezer technique. Fewer hurt fingers than a needle, and less throwing the whole thing across the room than the tri-knotter!

ive actually got a knotting tool! that makes it even worse!

I can get the knots close to the pearls thats fine, but i seem to get in a right muddle with the silk and get knots further up the silk!

Ill give that tutorial a watch now thanks

Don't you use a needle to slide your knots to where you want them?
I do. The finer the needle the closer to the pearl the knot will slide.
You tie the knot over the needle and it'll move up and down the string.
I've never had any problems and can knot quite fast......

Very pointy tweezers will help get the knot in the right place, we tried out a tool for tying knots a while back but honestly it really didn't seem worth the money and we thought it was actually easier to make the knot neatly and get it in the right place just by using tweezers (plus good light and for small fiddly things like this, a vision visor is really helpful, if you get it looking neat wearing the vison visor then it will look perfect to the naked eye!!
