  • Memory Wire

    Hi folks!

I've just made a bracelet from memory wire, but the coils have stretched a bit in the process. Is there any way to get it to tighten up? I have really skinny wrists and the bracelet falls off!

I'm not sure if you can get it to tighten up, are you using the small or large size bracelet memory wire?

I have no idea! The loops were so small that I couldn't get my hand through them - now.... they fall off.

Is the wire holding its coiled shape? How many coils did you use for the bracelet? Beads on the memory wire will enlarge the diameter of the bracelet overall. I've never known a mem wire bracelet to actually fall off anyone before so your wrists must be tiny or you've used very heavy beads.

You can get childs size bracelet memory wire which is smaller diameter. Maybe you need to use that for yourself.

Yes - it's keeping its shape - but I have wire and firepolished beads wrapped around it, so I expect that counts as heavy!

Will remember to buy kiddie-sized in future though

            Memory wire

I make a lot of memory wire bracelets & I have yet to stretch the wire that much that it falls off my wrist.

Did you struggle to get the beads on the wire? Sometimes when I've used a bead where the hole is too small & I've forced it onto the wire, then the the wire has stretched but not a lot.

Perhaps using a smaller wire would suit you but practice makes perfect!

The problem may be the actual wire that you are using - What brand is it? The stuff I use is beadlon and I have not had a problem so far (fingers crossed haha)

It was pre-packaged at a bead shop, so I guess it's not the highest quality... that'll learn me!

I've found different manufacturers' memory wire comes in different size diameters - I think Beadalon do two sizes for wrists and neither fit me, small being too small and big being, well, too big! I've found CreativeS 58mm wire spot on for most wrist sizes but always allow for the beads to "stretch" it a little bit.

Sorry to say, but I don't think there's anyway to get it smaller it's such hellishly tough stuff.
