  • I need to make a choker

    Hi guys and gals,

I have been asked to make a choker using Swarovski crystals for a Valentines present.

I am a bit stuck, has anyone any ideas or tips?

    Thanks, Lou

Do you mean with a material bas then add beads somehow?

I ask because when I think of a choker I think of a length of black ribbon tied round the neck.

Well, I first thought that I would string a length of Swarovski crystals and add a clasp but I didn't know if that would be professional enough.

I know you can buy metal chokers to add beads to, so I thought that may be better.

      Any advice is great.

Well, to me the main feature of a choker is that its shorter than an average necklace, so it fits against the skin mid neck(hence the name choker).
I think as long as it does that then it can be classed as a choker nomatter what yuor design.

A strand of swarovski sounds nice, you could try 2 or 3 strands just so its a bit wider, or put a ribbon background to it.
You can get necklace connectors/clasps that fold over the end of material.

          Hey Lou,
Chain chokers are also great. I found instructions on how to make one a while back. I can't post links yet but if you google "how to make a chain choker" it should be the 2nd listing (site name - distant wisdom)

          Hope this helps a little

Lou (hmm... this could get confusing)

Can you do right angle weave? If so, have a look at Chris Prussing's designs on http://www.bead-patterns.com click on 'designer info' - she's number 29.
