  • My 1st Commision - advice needed

I have just received my first commission via my website from a lady who would like a pair of earrings to match a necklace on my gallery. It is a beautiful necklace that I do have spare beads from. It's just that earrings are so personal, and I am not quite sure where to go from here. I have emailed her and asked if she would like dangley or short ones, but I am a bit stuck for design ideas!
    Here is a link to the necklace in my album;

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hmmm... difficult question - whether she wants dangly or not will really make a difference to what you make. I absolutely love the heart shape you have in the middle, and would use that shape as the focus of the earrings myself... but as I don't sell things, I'm not sure that's useful!

Hi Hagar, having looked at the necklace, my immediate thought is dangles, using jump rings but, as has been mentioned, not knowing what the customer wants makes it a tricky. I had a similar problem before Christmas with a lady who wanted matching earrings and a bracelet to go with a necklace I'd made. I played with several ideas then sent her a jpg of 3 or 4 I'd made and she chose which she liked the best.

And having now looked at your website, can I say you've made some beautiful pieces. I especially love the sea foam bracelet.

Well done on a lovely site. I've been thinking and talking about having my own website for about the past year but haven't yet done anything about it. I'm envious!

Thats a good idea Wildheart, making up several designs and see which she goes for. I will have a play around with it this afternoon and see what I come up with. The choker itself was twisted wire which is tricky to translate into earrings.

I was the same about my website, I set it up in a week and have sold 5 items already (official opening was last Thursday). I am no computer whizz but it was quite easy - the Mr Site package was very simple to use.
            You should go for it.

My first thought was dangly, I can't think of any other way of making earrings to match the necklace. Though I know nothing of jewellery design!

I think the neckalce is beautiful on it's own. Much the same as all your things-beautiful!

Did you make the heart? If so, I'd be inclined to make two smaller ones in the same style, and top them with a little cluster of the matching beads.

I think I'd make little clusters using the black crystal beads and the greyish purplish ones (are they peacock pearls?) and I'd try to incorporate the wire wrapping - ok . . . it sounds a lot easier than it probably is!

                    Beautiful

That is a very beautiful necklace!! Love it and the colours are great! I think some simple looking dangly earrings would match lovely. The moonstone colour teardrops would look lovely if they were wire wrapped like a briolette and then maybe some really tiny crystals or small beads that matched the ones used in the necklace, above the briolette on a bit of chain. This would look pretty and simple and not be overpowering on the face, if you know what i mean.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. And great you got your first commission from your website, obviously doing something right!

                    Good luck

Oh some lovely ideas there, thanks everyone.
I was wanting to incorporate the twisted wire but also couldnt think how!
The hearts I bought but can get more in a smaller size so yes that may well make a good pair of earrings.

Hagar- how did you advertise to sell within the first week?! well done

Earrings- agree with the wire wrapping technique, not too long so it wont overshadow the necklace

No advertising of my website as yet Renata, sales just by word of mouth really. I plugged all my friends on Facebook and the Mum's at school! I have some postcards made up with the website address on so am starting to distribute those. I know friends sales cant last forever!
