  • Steel....

    hello...

does anybody know what solder I would use on steel?

for copper, is it silver solder?

Silver solder for steel - but ideally with a special steel flux. You can use borax at a pinch. Very hot torch though - and it's tricky to get it hot enough without losing the flux and oxidising the metal.

For copper, either use silver solder, or for a low melt point option I know people who use plumbers copper solder with good results.

Personally I would braze steel, it does need a little more heat but it is a better join without getting into welding
Copper, I agree with mizgeorge silver solder is better but lead free plumbers solder will give a reasonable job
