  • Julesgems closed?

A few weeks ago I ordered 2 lots 22 gauge square wire from this company but only received 1 and was told the other one would be on back order. There were quite a few types on back order. Checking today I saw that most of the wires were back in stock but the one I wanted could not be back ordered. Curious to the reason I tried to log into my account only to be told that Julesgems had closed on 16th December. I am in shock as I was delighted to find a UK supplier of sterling silver square wire but now I cant finish my project cause they are no longer in business.
Is the recession so bad that our suppliers are going out of business? I cannot believe this I am so shocked! I even went back to check to see if they were just closed for Christmas ...but no they have ceased trading.

Nope - shop is shut and they are officially no longer trading. Looks like the exchange rates began to bite a little too hard.

This is just the start, there will be many firms who are not in a position to survive the months ahead. We have one Indian supplier who has failed to deliver and is now doing the excuses. We always use Pay Pal or credit cards to pay so we can pull the payment back unless we are doing business face to face then its cash, which is getting us some fantastic deals.
It also means that there may be a lot of bankrupt stock comming onto the market, we are keeping our eye on the auction houses for signs of this

It is such a shame about Julesgems, their shop only opened in September. No-one seems to know why they have closed so suddenly, but it seems that they may have overstretched themselves and the exchange rate has not helped either.

I think you are right Amethyst, they didn't have much choice.

You can get square wire here but only in .5mm or 1mm not the .7mm you wanted.

              and Palmers have .8mm

Thanks Silvermaid I will keep them in mind. I had an email from Beadgems a while back saying that they are stocking the wire but as yet I dont see it on their website so I have sent off an email to them to ask about ordering it.
Failing that its back to the good old US of A to order it!

Thanks Witchford. I have used them also but the wire is too thick for what I want to use it for. Mind you I did make something using the thick wire before (waste not want not) but I prefer the thin stuff

You could always get a drawplate with square holes and then you can draw round wire through to the correct size.
                      Best wishes
