  • Cutting Sterling Silver for bails

    Hi

I have some sterling silver strips that I want to cut so that I can use it to make bails for my jewellery.

I am after a cutter that will cut a 1/4 round circle at each of the corners as I prefer this instead of having square corners.

Does anyone know if a tool like this exists and if so where would be the best place to buy it from?

Any website addresses would be useful

Thanks in advance for your replies

Could you use a file to round the corners? That might be easiest.

Appologies if I've completely misunderstood what you meant!

If your silver sheet isn't too thick then you can just cut the corners with a good pair of scissors. I've used scissors to cut 0.6 mm thick with no problems and I reckon you could still cut the sheet even if it was several mms thicker.

I would use a pair of hefty tin snips to cut off the corners, then file and buff them.
