Make your own bails

Just wanted to show you these bails that we made out of sterling silver sheet. We bought the sheet from Palmers who cut it to size you want - we opted for 20 or 30 mm long by 10 mm wide x 0.6 mm thick. I think next time we will use 0.8 mm We then cut it (with scissors) so that its only 5 mmm wide, stamped with a 925 punch, coiled the top then glued onto flat (ish) stones. The result is a very cheap (under 50p each) alternative to buying ready-made sterling aarnraku style bails costing a few pound each.

Rhodochrosite helen, a very nice stone, very popular with the ladies, quite expensive for a good one.

These are fab and just what I'm after! Is there such a thing as silver plated sheet that I could use for the same thing? Better still where can I find this style ready made in SP?

Hiya Gail - don't think they'd work out if you used silver plated sheet. I reckon the plate would crack and fall off when you curl it.

There must be something similar to buy ready made - can't help you tho cos I prefer to use sterling so never look for plated ones.

YES! I did have to look it up - although Urbtaf did tell me what it meant AFTER he'd let me look it up!
