  • Anyone used/using fimo to make charms, beads etc

    Hi
I just fancy having a go at making charms with polymer clays and was wondering if anyone has any hints and tips to get going.
I would love to make little charms to add to my bracelets so any help ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Look forward to your answers so then I can get started

I'm working on some pendants right now, but I'm not sure I could give any worthwhile advice cause' I'm only at the beginner stage myself. I've chosen to hand paint mine (can't give up the old paint brushes no matter how hard I try!) I will say one thing, it's not as easy as it looks - we could swap notes if you like?

      Hi Gail
Thank you for replying that would be great to chat perhaps by PM.
I have tried to make some pendents, wish i could paint like you.
You are so talented, I'm afraid my first one looked like eatable choc chip cookies and my son thought I'd made cookies for him.I have also tried the little cup cakes with the swirly tops, but need on how to keep the wire rings attached to the cake itself.OH must not forget made a summer sandal freehand and put a stitch effect on it and decorated on the front in tiny seed beads.I have not varnished them yet.I suppose it is just practise and patience,my partner says I am too much of a perfectionist.
      Speak to you soon

Can I ask when you use acrylics what do you use as a protective sealer once the paint is dry?

                Hi Pauline,

I use the same varnish I use on my canvas's and it's made by Winsor & Newton. It's not cheap but not the most expensive either. I've just checked what I varnished yesterday and it's still a bit tacky, so may need a few days to harden off properly.

Ummmm.....I've noticed my web link has suddenly gone awol - did I do something wrong

I have made some earrings and bit n bobbs for Christmas, most haven't got hooks on yet or chains on the necklace's, But I just used coloured firmo and glitter nail varnish. seems to be ok, I am pretty new to polymer clay, but I think most things can be made with it. Just dont forget to push the metal eye into the clay before bakeing to hang them on. xxx

Pepsi those are fab! I love the shoes they are so different.

I keep looking at fimo clay in our local art shop and wondering if I'd be clever enough to make anything with it.

Decided to have a go with the kids playdough next time they have it out and see what my modelling skill are likely. Think I'll stick to beading until then as that is addictive and time consuimg enough as it for the moment.
