  • Bead Boards

I just wondered if anyone uses those bead boards with all the measurements on, that can be used to layout your design before you start? I've never used one but have been making jewellery for a while now... just wondered if I'm missing out on not having one of these!!!

I would totally recomend buying one.
they are groved so they keep the beads from rolling around. You can make sure the necklace is the length you want it and its just a good way to lay your design out and see how it looks before putting it all together.
    I think nattynetty sells them.

I use mine occasionally, but probably not as often as a should, for laying designs out and for working out how many beads I need. I use the ones in the bead shop when buying more than I use the one at home.

I've used one a few times but not very much these days - depends if you find them useful for the kinds of designs you make.

I got one in a kit, i don't think i'd have bought one if not. They can be handy if what you are doing has a pattern of different beads, then you can lay them out to see what it will look like.

I use mine quite a lot but only for designs using several different beads - They're great to use to mark the centre piece in a design then you can work outwards making sure you get your beads in the right order. Also good for making 2 or 3 strand necklaces & bracelets as the grooves spaced out just right so it makes measuring the different strands easier.

The other good thing about them is the lid - great when I'm making things at the market and something is only half finished when its time to go home. I can just pop the lid on and take it home to finish later. Obviously you can't do this if you're using large beads.

If I'm just using one or two different beads then I don't bother. I have a 24" long metal ruler on the edge of my desk and I just use that as a guide for the length of my pieces.

Ooooooh - glad to see I'm not the only one that uses OH's paypal account!

My excuse is that the transactions on my account always go through on echeque and they take too long to clear.
