  • Need help deciding on how to fasten necklet

    Hi Guys

Not the best photo I know, but I made a few necklaces today. All the same as below, but in a selection of colours. The only things is,is i'm not sure how to fasten the ends. The necklets are basically 12 strands of beadalon threaded with 110(yes I counted 110 for every strand) seed beads. Should I use a crimp bead and a calotte or something else. i really just don't want this to break or for the strands to slide out while it is being worn.Could you please have a look and tell me what you think.

    Thank you

      Ends

Your photo doesn't appear on my PC but if you want to crimp the ends I would suggest using sterling silver crimps as they work better than other types. You could use cone shaped ends to cover crimp.

If you ever have to count out so many beads again you could invest in a bead counter http://www.vikingloom.co.uk/acatalog...ml&CatalogBody if you scroll down a bit you'll find them

Crimps should be fine, but when I use them I always crimp twice.

good question - ive been trying to think of the best way to join lots of strands to a clasp. the thing with callotes is they will really only fit 2 strands - unless there are bigger ones out there that i havent seen.

Id be interested in hearing suggestions.

with 12 strands I think I would be tempted to use cone ends as well just to finish it off neatly

For that many strands one option would be to thread on a clasp then use a larger size crimp to fasten the ends with a crimp cover to finish (hope that makes sense).

I think it's likely you've got too many strands to hold with 1 crimp and through a calotte.

I think you may have to secure each strand with a crimp onto a closed jump ring. Attach an eye pin to the jump ring and thread it into a cone that will hide all the ends.

Then trim the excess length off the eye pin sticking out of the end of the cone to make a loop to attach you end fitting.
