  • Bring out your Bench!!!

It was my Birthday last week & hubby asked what I wanted
(expecting the usual "Radley bag" or shoes request...)
    "A workspace" said I.
Hubby looked at me blankly...."A what?"
    "A workspace" said I.
    Hubby looked confused...."At the shop?"
    "No...at home" said I
(I've already got a little one at the shop, but I was fed up with "taking out & packing away" at home)

Eventually, after a bit of explanation (and heavy negotiation as to whether we really needed a house freezer when we could have a chest freezer in the garage) I ended up with THIS....

    Aint birthdays wonderful
Who'd have thought a worktop would be the perfect height??
No more "kitchen table" back aches for me! HOORAH!!!!!!

P.S> So come on then show me your workrooms & bead caverns!!!

Wow I have work bench envy. My dad bought me a child size work bench when I was little. There was a school referbing and selling of the wood work benches.

I think I might have to dig it out at somepoint the urge to saw metal is getting stronger. (I haven't done it in 15 years.)

Yep - it was where the freezer went

A carpenter friend of ours cut out the worktop and installed my new bench peg
(which will soon be the "shark eaten" mess my old one was )
I even remembered to ask him for a mandrel hole so I can keep my hands free when making rings..
        I LOVE my new bench

The ones at our college were just pieces of cloth velcrowed under the bench on 3 sides. Hard to explaine.

I'm really lucky as I've just had a whole new studio built for me in the garden which is 8 metres long and has 2 rooms - one for jewellery and one for enamelling. It's a wooden building and is fully insulated and double glazed. Mind you, I paid for it myself from last year's earnings, so I think I deserve it.
                Best wishes

Its soooo nice to have your own space - you can put something down and know it will still be there when you want to pick it up again. You can walk away from your work and leave it ready to pick up again later. No DH trying to tidy up behind you like mine does. He's dreadful when I cook, I have to walk round the kitchen clutching all my utensils cos if I blink they're in the dishwasher. He's just he same when I'm sewing.
So enjoy your new bench. May you do some beautiful crafting there.
