  • How often & how many ????

Hi Everyone! Just wondering, after reading another thread about storage solutions, how many pieces of jewellery you all make in a month? And do most of you do this full time or as a hobby? Some of the pictures iv seen seem really detailed and must have taken you ages to make ! Or do you get faster with experience?

Excluding Sunday about 1 or 2 pieces a day (more towards Christmas)
    so about 25 - 30 pieces a month
A lot of them are earrings to match outfits & little gifts though
(not much time taken up there!)

I think you do get faster with experience as far as techinque is concerned but when it comes to actual designs you can't put a time on it - sometimes ideas come flying out of nowhere and it just works first time and other times I know what I want to do but have to really think about how I'm gonna get the result I want and it can take ages.

I suppose I'm what you call full time cos I make at least 5 or 6 pieces a week and sometimes I can make 5 or 6 in a day - thats necklaces and bracelets. When it comes to earrings - I just don't count cos I can walk round the market first thing and buy a cheap necklace from another stall which I then proceed to take to bits, add a few filler beads and hey presto - half an hour later I have 20 new pairs of earrings for the cheapo board.

I make as much as I can when I'm on the market with DH (3 days per week) cos its a great crowd puller and its surprising how many people will buy something when they realise that you actually make the stuff yourself.

Sometimes carry on working when I get home. other times I just reach for the vodka and say "I've done enough for today".

Then there's the days when I come for a chat and you make nothing.

I make things when the muse arises. I flit from one craft to thje other as the mood takes me. But then again it's only a hobby.

And today I made nothing cos I spent most of the day with my mum and my gorgeous great-nephew (6 months old!). Came home at tea time to find my husband taking necklaces to bits and making . . . . . . . . earrings for the cheapo board.

As I speak/type, he is currently ensconced on the sofa surrounded by findings and half burried beneath about 200 pairs of earrings.

Maybe I should show him my comfy chair in the cellar.

Well be careful you clear the beads off the sofa first...
Oooh imagine the comments at the ER if you turned up with a load of earrings stuck in your buttocks

With working & having a 6 year old & a 7 month old, I don't get anywhere near enough time to make jewellery. I can only really get stuck in after 8 when they are both in bed but then I can make about 3 pieces. DH usually pulls me out of my shed about 11pm and orders me to go to bed! Otherwise I'll easily sit there all night.

I mentioned to DH that I wish I could stop working and do jewellery full time. At which point he reminded me that 90% of my client base is at my work. Good point!

If i had the money and components Id make about 5 a day.
But in reality I make a couple a month at this point in life.
Just had the cradit card bill through which wasnt as bad as I thought so guess i can start buying again.

Ive found I plan ahead alot more.Working out how to make the piece so in that way Im faster when making things.

I'm just a hobby jewellery maker as I work full time, although the jewellery is starting to feel like a full time job this week, I've just taken on 3 commissions (1 for a necklace/bracelet/earrings set) and have found a second (and possibly 3rd & 4th shop to stock a few pieces)

I'm not complaining about having a good week by any means, but it does mean that all of my evenings will be taken up for the forseeable future

If I'm on a roll, I can make a couple of pieces in a night, but at other times it'll take me ages to make something, especially when I change my mind halfway through and start all over again!

I can make 2 or 3 a day if I'm in a creative mood, some weeks maybe only 1 or 2. My head is constatly buzzing with ideas some good some bad and some down right impractical,lol..I tend to jot the ideas down, leave them a while then go back to it.

I have about 3 pots of beads picked for making up bracelets at any one time and normally one piece "on the go"

my best time of day for making is normally 1st thing after I've sent kids of to school, college, work etc. I get nothing done in the evenings as its bedlam here and theres always somebody who needs picking up or dropping off somewhere

I'm sure if I was more organized I would get more done, lol
