  • Tibetan silver ????

    Hi there !

Just wondering about all these items on ebay advertised as Tibetan silver. Is this just silver plated? Would they give your skin that green tinge ?

The actual silver content of “Tibetan Silver” can be as low as 1 to 2% and/or the core material may actually be tin and antimony alloy.
It can also contain other white metals e.g. Nickel & even Lead

The only way to check is to speak to the seller (assuming they know)
    and ask...

Tibetan silver is an alloy including lead copper a tiny amount of silver and often nickel. In the UK nickel is classed as a dangerous substance when used on clothing or jewellery so best to make sure you buy the nickel free stuff

Chris, it's only dangerous in the release quantities you link to on the Trading Standards site. I have to say that, because I have spent ages making sure the 'nickel plated' size15 seedbeads I use (and sell) are OK. Biggest problem is that they are being sold in some circles as 'tarnished silver'....................minefield.

I know Peter a minefield for sure - makes it very difficult for us all- escpecially with so many other sellers on Ebay who are not bound by UK legislation. I have to say though I have used it and never had any adverse reaction and I am allergic to lots of things being such a delicate little thing and I didn't turn green either lol

And I break out in hives at the mention of the word allergies
