  • black gunk in my Mini-Mag

i've been using my mini mag barrel polisher for about a year. a black gunk keeps forming at the botton of the barrel and my work gets covered in it.

im using the barreling powder from cooksons (sodium carbonate).
can anyone help be out with a method of cleaning the pins.

    Thank you for any help.

    Hi Chris,
is it a rotary polisher? I don't recognise the name.

Dont you have to just change the pins? I'm not sure but I dont htink you can really prevent this from happening- I think you justhave to clean out the barrel and maybe add soap flakes? Check out the link below.

I've only just started tumble-polishing myself so I've yet to have any gunk build-up!
Hope you can get this sorted though. Are you able to clean it off the jewellery okay?

Went looking and found this product at cooksons 999 0052. They are claiming it is hazardous though so I can only imagine what it is!!!

            mini mag

the mini mag is a magnetic barrel polisher. gunk aside, i love it! the barrel is horizontal with an open top so you can pick the work out and check it while its still running. and its good for delicate work too
anyway, i've just been cleaning the pins every day to stop the build up but its a real pain. i used waterd down meths and that worked abit better but my workshop stunk like a tramp all day! i'll keep experimenting...
