I'm no expert on this but from what I've seen and understand of the process, the silver has to be incredibly hot and molten and when I've seen it done it's only been achieved with two very strong soldering torches.

So, from that, I'm guessing the temperature of the silver just isn't hot enough.

Anyone who knows more feel free to tell me I'm wrong!

        Hi,

it definately sounds like you haven't heated up the silver enough- it should go molten. I have a crummy tiny hand held torch too- i was going to try casting but if i need a better torch I might have to get one.

Does anyone know where I can get a small hand-held torch with enough strength to melt silver?

Cooksons have got one on offer at the moment but I'm not sure if it's srong enough to get silver to melting point. Might work if it's only melting a small amount of silver?

            Torches

I buy my torches at DIY stores like Wickes, I've found they are hot enough to melt silver for me although you have to be patient, it doesn't happen instantly.
