  • My first attempt at lampwork

I had a fabulous one day training session with the remarkably talented Beverley Hicklin at her home studio in Sussex on Monday.

It was very difficult, but great fun and totally addictive. I just want to get all the gear and do more at home now.

I have uploaded pictures (my usual bad photos I'm afraid) to Flickr if anyone wants to have a look at the results of my day.

I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone thinking of having a go, it's really worth doing.

If you can't face trawling through all the pics on Flickr, here's a pic of all the beads made that day. The 5 at the top were made by Beverley to demonstrate different techniques, the rest were made by me. I also made lots of stringers and a 5 colour twistie which I used on the blue bead.

Thanks everyone, your comments are really encouraging. I had a great time and a great teacher. Beverley was telling me about the Flame Off, hope I can go next year.

The beads are far from perfect, they are not all uniform in shape and the tube one has a crack at one end and is a bit oval in cross section, but I love them.

I have no intention of selling them, I want to keep them. I might turn a couple of them into jewellery though.
