  • Help - thermometer

    Hi folks

Well I fired up my kiln for the second time this last weekend. Wouldnt say it was a complete success. Its an old kiln, not really designed for glass but I got it cheap!

anyways I am not sure that I have the temps right where would I get a thermometer from that i could drop therough the vent hole to test the temp every so often?

Thanks for a total fruit cake who is still threatening to blow up the workshop!
    Take care

Does the kiln have the facility of a kiln sitter, that way you can get a bar that will shut off once the temperature has been met and the lenght of cooking time is right?

      Thermometer

      Hi and thanks for answering.

Yes it has but that only helps me with the final temp and I was wondering about the crash from 790 down and the hold at about 530 on the way up as I cannot judge those at all.

It basically goes to temp set and then stops.

ooer, I think you may need to invest in a new kiln which uses a thermostat rather than kiln sitters, Ive only know those used for pottery. If you are using glass I think you should really invest in a proper kiln for that. (Ive tried firing glass in a pottery kiln and the results are unpredictable!)

Oh well have to keep trying

Cant afford it so this will have to work

I will go look for a thermometer to test the kiln then at least I know if its firing to the right temp
          Take care

Have you tried looking on the internet for Potclays or one of the other kiln companies around the Stoke area (the names have completely left my brain at the mo-sorry!!!) they may have just what you are looking for. I know they have technical advisers there so you may be able to talk to someone about what you need.

You can have a battery operated digital thermometer and a thermocouple .
