We don't use table salt here (just rock salt) so I dont have the quantity of table salt required to make up a standard salt dough recipe... However I've just bought a massive sack of dishwasher salt. Would it be crazy to try the recipe with that instead of buying yet more salt? The salt dough is for ornaments so won't be consumed.

It should be fine, unless it has anti caking agent added. If it's really course you could grind it up a bit in the food processor or pestle and mortar.
If it contains the anti caking agent then you'd be better nipping to the shops.full time mum and very very part time crafter.

I am not so sure... without grinding it, it will really take a great deal of time to break down into the dough mix. Frankly I would just go out and buy a drum of household salt which will only cost a pound or so.
