  • Making up names

Im sat here trying to do write ups for new goodies, but I cant continue until Ive got a name for each one.
I thought thsi would be the fun part..but nope, its really tough trying to think up names that are interesting and capture what the piece is about.

    Any theories for naming?

    I found that difficult too..
Usually try to make it tie in with the colour, you could always look the colour up in the dictionary and see what the description is..

hehehe, yep Im guilty of that, the thesaurus too.
I just feel bad as there are only so many ways to describ 1 colour and make it sound exciting.
I have 2 necklaces which consist of basically the same thing so teh write ups are going to be near enough the same!!

Hmm, there must be something different ?
If they are nearly the same i'd be inclined to just put them on the site one at a time.. makes them look more 'exclusive' then....

          Good point, thanks.
There is one small difference but mostly the same, to the point where they are the same price.
I shall put one on at a time, thats a good idea, thanks.

Naming is a nightmare. When working as a textile designer I had to think of names for all the different designs we had, and I couldn't use names that had been used in the past. It was difficult but I had several ways of doing it. I had lists of names including places, colours, countries, star signs, flowers, girls names, boys names etc. You could always start a list and add to it as and when you think of something. Another way is to scan catalogues or magazines for names.

You could alternatively do what I saw on another forum and have a little naming competiton, the price was chocolate which I'm sure you'd agree is a great prize (hehe). Last idea I promise, is you could always just us on the forum for free, you never know sometimes its easier to think of a name for somebody elses product than your own.

Was going to suggest some of what has already been mentioned as well.

What about famous films stars? Elizabeth Taylor springs to mind! There are some great names there.

Flavours of Ice Creams, Sweets, Flowers, Era's (as in roaring twenties etc), Cities, Stars, Planets.........Once you get going, there really is a lot of 'groups' you can use.
